Elastomer Materials – Selection Assistance
Selection of the appropriate material is critical to meeting goals for application performance, dimensional specifications and cost. See the list of Materials with which we typically work. We can work with you on custom colors and compounding.
Mold Design and Build – Advising on Options and Tradeoffs
After the material and molding process have been selected, we provide alternatives for mold design and advise on tradeoffs. Once you approve the mold design, we take responsibility for it’s manufacture. We also provide a service for mold modifications, cleaning and refurbishment.
Molding Processes – Specializing in Injection Molding
We have several molding processes at our disposal to best meet the requirements of the molded material, part specifications and cost targets. See our Glossary of common molding terminology.
Advanced Rubber Products has particular expertise in molding and overmolding of silicone for complex large parts. See our Equipment for more details.
Compression Molding
Compression molding is often lower cost alternative for larger parts, low to moderate volumes, and simpler parts.Compression molding is a method in which molding material is placed in an open, heated mold cavity. Once the mold is closed by a plunger, the molding material is softened by applying heat and pressure, which causes the rubber to conform to the shape of the mold. Heat and pressure are maintained until the elastomer is cured.
Injection Molding
Advanced Rubber Products has extensive experience in injection molding of silicone for large and small products especially those used in high voltage utility transmission products and in high power industrial equipment. Included is our ability to overmold onto fiberglass, copper, brass, and stainless steel. Injection molding involves heating and masticating the material with the screw, and then injecting them under pressure into a mold cavity. The elastomer is cured in the mold using pressure and temperature to facilitate the vulcanization process. Once the product is cured, it is ejected from the mold cavity. Injection molding is typically the most efficient and cost-effective method of custom molding.
Transfer Molding
Transfer molding is suitable for more intricate rubber components because unlike compression molding, a closed mold is used. Tooling of transfer molding is highly accurate and the process has a relatively low cycle time. Transfer molding is similar to compression molding in that the process begins with pre-measured materials placed in a pot where they are heated. A plunger forces the molding material through the gate and sprues, spreading to the channels of mold cavities. The mold remains closed until the cavities have been filled and the curing cycle is complete.
Prototyping and Value-Added Assembly – Offering One-Stop Service
Advanced Rubber Products is available to assemble and pack components, sub-assemblies and turnkey products. We have the flexibility to respond to high mix, lower volume products, as well as handle high production volumes. We also work with you on smaller production runs during the prototyping phase.
Support Services – Extension of Your Operations
If the need arises Advanced Rubber Products can quote on providing services for sourcing complementary components for kitting with the parts we produce for you. We can also meet requirements for specialized packaging, labeling, bar coding, electronic order handling, inventory management and JIT drop shipping.
Workmanship Standards and Quality Certifications – ISO 9001:2015 Certified
Advanced Rubber Products is ISO9001:2015 certified. We work with you during the design phase to assist in specifying the applicable ANSI, ASME, IEEE, IEC, Mil-Spec, and RMA (Rubber Manufacturers Association) standards to ensure that workmanship quality standards are met.
